Pour bien commencer cette année 2006, quoi de mieux qu'une petite chronique de disque faite par une ligne de basse ayant envie de sortir des limbes d'une soirée du premier de l'an bien arrosée.....

Ainsi après le hip hop jazzy d'Hocus pocus, les breakbeat funky de Maelstrom, la folk de Mainsfield TYA et la soul funk cinématique de Smooth, des nantais (sans aucun chauvinisme) créent la surprise électro de cette nouvelle année 2006 : DEPHT AFFECT.

Ce duo n'est pas inconnu des sphères de l'electro-hip-hop-nica-folk, ayant à leur actif plusieurs remix et un EP "Mesquin" sorti en 2004. C'est sur le long format "Arche Lymb" que nous retrouverons en février DEPTH AFFECT pour ses nouvelles trouvailles musicales, sur le label et web-label de ses débuts "Autres directions in music"

(www.autresdirections.net/inmusic).

Le travail a été long (depuis 2004) pour sortir cet ouvrage d'orfèvre composé de 13 pépites autant influencées par le label WARP que la folktronica de Four Tet et le hip-hop de Alias.

Ce dernier les ayant plébiscité lors de l'ouverture de son concert en mai 2004 à Paris, c'est avec plaisir que nous retrouvons le MC producteur américain du label ANTICON sur le titre "Wyoming highway", une instrumentale taillée sur mesure.

Autres invités, les américains de Cyne lachent leurs flows conscients sur "One day or 50", sublimé par une nappe electronica digne de Board of Canada.

Le poids écrasant des références citées précédemment ne les empêche pas de créer leur propre univers clair / obscur, empreint de mélancolie, de poésie et d’étrangeté. Leur force tient dans cette facilité à mélanger des passages folk, des rythmiques concassées et des nappes atmosphériques.

A noter également que le duo s'est métamorphosé en quatuor, et compte désormais dans ses rangs un VJ's et un DJ's pour les accompagner durant leurs shows, justifiant ainsi la réputation fiévreuse et géniale de leurs concerts.

L'achat de disque sur le net, une pratique devenue courante pour tous les crate-diggers de la planète, avec la possibilité d'accéder à des références difficilement trouvables de notre coté de la manche. Les sites sont nombreux et proposent nouveautés, réeditions...

Un site sort du lot, proposant une étendue de genre musicaux allant de l'électro au hip hop en passant par le funk, la soul ou l'electroclach (cette selection me rappelle une émission de la bande FM !!!) : www.tunes.co.uk

site met à jour régulièrement son catalogue (nouveautés hebdomadaires), avec la particularité de distribuer des "petits" labels anglais mais également danois, espagnol...Chose appréciable pour tout fan de musique, les références sont écoutables sur le site.
